Approve the Blogger, not the Post

Consistency and control are values that are at odds with social media.

If those values are your part of your mantra you may need to rethink  them if you wish to be successful in this space.

You haven’t controlled the conversation for some time. Get over it. And, nothing is worse than being consistently bad.

Instead of spending your time trying to control every blog post or tweet from your organization, spend time on hiring people that you trust to communicate on your behalf.

If you hire great people you won’t need to give them a set of guidelines.

Do you think we accept a lack of consistency from individual voices in social media? How would we feel if someone like Seth Godin changed his style or content?

I think a consistent voice is fine. As long as it's a human voice.

My comment on consistency was not that consistency is bad. But, consistency at all costs is a poor strategy.

I think you've hit the nail on the head by talking about the need for a human voice.

Couldn't agree more! I don't know if you want to call it a kind of zen, but I think the more we let go and trust others, the more we gain. Oh we may get burned once in a while, but nothing that can't be fixed. Empowerment is never a bad strategy!
