Most definitely. I think there is terrific potential for marketers to leverage services like Groupon/Foursquare to connect with their customers & in turn offer a unique value proposition by offering incentives and a reason for repeat business.

For example, check out this recent story about how an organic food chain in North Carolina is using Foursquare to drive repeat business - http://bit.ly/8WKfM8 Imagine how well that would work for a local business like @CupcakeCornerSK :)

Chris,

Geo-location is a definite must add to the list. I'll be interested to see if people will be willing to disclose their coordinates on a regular basis. Foursquare and GoWalla look interesting; I'll have to explore in a little more detail.

I hadn't heard of Groupon until now. Looks interesting; you seem to have an idea brewing?

Cheers,
Mike

Nice post Mike!

I think another trend in 2010 that will tie most of the ones you mentioned together is the advent of geo-location.

With most cars and phones coming equipped with it, popular services like Twitter and Facebook embracing it, companies like Google (Latitude) building for it, hot technology like Augmented Reality using it as a corner stone, not to mention 2010's hottest new social networks - Foursquare and GoWalla - being built around the concept, I think we are going to see an explosion of interest in the sector.

Also, your typical advertisement for the new year got me thinking of another interesting new service - have you heard of Groupon?
